Equality NC and Time out Youth Center Introduce Joint Director of Youth Policy Dr. Todd Rosendahl
Equality NC, the state’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) advocacy group, and Time Out Youth Center, a regional organization offering direct services and support to LGBTQ youth, are proud to introduce the new joint Director of Youth Policy Dr. Todd Rosendahl.
Prior to being the Director of Youth Policy for Equality NC and Time Out Youth, Dr. Rosendahl trained thousands of K-12 school staff members in the Charlotte region on how to create safer and more welcoming schools for LGBTQ students as the Director of School Outreach at Time Out Youth Center. He also assisted school districts with LGBTQ-inclusive policy/regulation writing, organized regional GSA network meetings, and led the annual Carolina Conference on Queer Youth. The position was created in a partnership with Equality NC and Time Out Youth Center and is partially funded by Bank of America.
“This can be a frightening time for LGBTQ youth across the nation but especially in North Carolina,” said Equality NC Executive Director Chris Sgro, “Equality North Carolina and Time Out Youth Center are committed to protecting LGBTQ young people through advocacy and direct services. We are now more than ever proud of our work to protect especially the most vulnerable among our community, and are thrilled to work with Time Out Youth Center and with the support of Bank of America”
“The Center started the School Outreach program six years ago and has made a huge impact on LGBTQ youth in school settings,” said Time Out Youth Executive Director Rodney Tucker, “As a regional organization, the Center was unable to meet requests from students and staff around the state. We are proud of this partnership and the possibilities it holds for North Carolina students.”
Under the new partnership, Equality NC and Time Out Youth Center will collaborate to host the fifth annual Carolina Conference on Queer Youth, held in the fall each year. Equality NC will also rent offices in the new Time Out Youth Center (3800 Monroe Road, Charlotte), opening in April. This will allow close collaboration and highlight the partnership between the two organizations. Dr. Rosendahl’s time will be split between specifically targeted Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, the Center’s largest partner in the region, and providing resources to the entire state.
