Equality NC Receives Defenders of Justice Award

Raleigh, N.C. - The North Carolina Justice Center announced today that Equality NC is a 2013 recipient of a Defenders of Justice Award. The award, presented at the The Fifteenth Annual Defenders of Justice Awards ceremony in May 2013, honor those who have made significant contributions in the fight against poverty in four areas that reflect the scope of the Justice Center’s work: Grassroots Empowerment, Legislative Advocacy, Litigation, and Policy Research and Advocacy.
Other 2013 Defenders of Justice Award-winners include Wayne Goodwin, NC Commissioner of Insurance, Phil Lehman, NC Office of the Attorney General, Mortgage Foreclosure Unit, Legal Aid of NC, and the A. Philip Randolph Institute.
"Since 2009, the Justice Center has recognized individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to improving the lives of poor and working North Carolinians," wrote North Carolina Justice Center executive director Melissa Lawrence in an announcement letter to Equality NC. "We appreciate [Equality NC's] dedication to expanding opportunity and prosperity for all North Carolinians and, through this award we wish to celebrate {Equality NC's] efforts and commitment."
Equality NC is a statewide organization working to secure equal rights and justice for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender North Carolinians.
