Equality NC Action Fund Announces 2012 Statewide & Judicial Candidate Endorsements

Raleigh, N.C. — Equality NC Action Fund, the political action committee (PAC) of North Carolina’s statewide Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) advocacy group, Equality NC, today announced its second round of endorsements for the 2012 General Election. These endorsements highlight candidates in races for Governor, Council of State, and key judicial races, and join the list of preferred candidates for legislative races announced last week.

Among the candidates endorsed today are gubernatorial candidate Walter Dalton, lt. gubernatorial hopeful Linda Coleman, and Sam Ervin IV for North Carolina Supreme Court.

This latest round of endorsements comes on National Voter Registration Day, a nationwide effort to educate eligible voters and register new ones. Equality NC will commemorate the September 25 activities with its first “Tuesday Twitter Town Hall” designed to promote its pro-equality endorsements and provide a forum for election education and interactivity among pro-equality candidates and voters. Participants can follow the action on Twitter, Tuesdays from 7-8 PM, until Election Day at #vote4equalityNC.

All endorsements can be found in the Equality NC Action Fund 2012 Online Voter Guide at www.equalitync.org/pac/voterguide2012.

“We are excited to announce our support for statewide and judicial candidate races as efforts ramp up in North Carolina and beyond to educate and engage with new and seasoned voters.” stated Stuart Campbell, Executive Director of Equality NC Action Fund. “We are excited to not only recommend the following gubernatorial, council of state and judicial candidates to North Carolina voters, but encourage all fair-minded citizens to head to the polls on November 6.”

Equality NC Action Fund evaluates candidates using multiple factors. Each candidate is provided an LGBT issue-based questionnaire, some are selected for interviews, and public position statements and past voting records are also considered.

“All of the candidates listed below are worthy of our support and vote and Equality NC Action Fund will in turn focus on strong pro-equality candidates in key races statewide,” explained Campbell. “In the process, our work continues to not only support candidates who stand with us 100% of the time, but also to work with and educate elected officials who are willing to understand and evolve on our issues.”
