Crystal Richardson Joins Equality NC

Crystal Richardson

Raleigh, N.C. – Equality NC announced today that Crystal Richardson will join Equality NC's team as an organizer dedicated to a first-of-its-kind partnership with the NAACP. The experienced advocate for pro-equality issues will be leading Equality NC's efforts during the NAACP's upcoming Freedom Moral Summer campaign.

"I am excited to be joining Equality NC for this amazing partnership with the NAACP and at this exciting time in our state’s movement for equality where there has been so much momentum gained from the Moral Monday Movement," said Richardson. "Working together will be so critical in educating the community of some of the changes to voting rights happening in North Carolina--changes that will affect a substantial amount of the population. It is critical that organizations join and work together on these issues. Without forming these partnerships we would not be able to combat the inequities within this new voting rights system."

As a Charlotte-based organizer and attorney working within national, state and local pro-equality efforts, Richardson is no stranger to North Carolina’s social and political landscape for the LGBT community. She has served organizations such as Human Rights Campaign, MeckPAC, and the Freedom Center for Social Justice Law Center.

The experienced pro-LGBT and equality advocate comes to Equality NC as the organization prepares to lead the charge in an important election year for pro-equality candidates and issues.

“On behalf of Equality NC, we are thrilled that Crystal will lead Equality NC in this new and exciting partnership with the NAACP,” said Equality NC executive director Chris Sgro “As an LGBT advocate living and working in North Carolina, she has seen first-hand the challenges facing marginalized populations in the South and I know she is committed to Equality NC’s mission of securing equality and justice for all North Carolinians.”

Richardson is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Charlotte Law School. She lives in Charlotte, N.C.
